Research shows that cat vision is best at night compared to humans, and worst during the day. Cats, like dogs, have membranes that reflect light back into the retina. Meanwhile, the cat’s ability to see is increased when in the dark, creating a sharp visual web. But during the day or where there is a lot of light, the cat’s irises narrow, reducing the amount of light in, avoiding glare, and improving visibility. Membrane and other parts give cats a better detection than humans. The variation in color of the cat’s eye in photographs closely resembles the interaction between the light and the membrane.
