Experts say Kurt was cloned from frozen preservatives 40 years ago, helping to revive a genetic diversity that seemed to have disappeared for decades. “This colt will be one of the most genetically important individuals for its species,” said zoologist Bob Wiese, director of life sciences at the San Diego Zoo Global nonprofit. know. “We hope it will bring genetic diversity to the future of the Mongolian wild horse population.”
